Homework Questions

What physical geographic features have aided the development of the United States?

There are physical features that have contributed to the development of the United States. For a example, the Mississippi River is the largest river in the Midwest which provides food, water, and it's a trade waterway. People can ship goods and products through rivers. There are lots of plains that was able to have different vegetation and suitable climate for farming crops. Another benefit for being near oceans is that we can have all these resources in order to mine for coals, drilling oils and support the factories.

What physical geographic features have aided the development of Vietnam?

Physical geographic features that have aided the development of Vietnam is mainly the Mekong Delta. Like the U.S, it provides food, water, and can ship easily. Vietnam also has floods which added to the benefits of having silt to plant more crops. With more crops, there are more foods and it can help to develop Vietnam. Not only the Mekong Delta helps to sustain life in Vietnam, it also attracts visitors and tourists. People are mesmerized by the beauty of this river, they will advertise it to their friends, and therefore, Vietnam's population will increase.

Compare the similarities and differences.

Similarities: They were both able to make a country efficient. And for both U.S and Vietnam, rivers are the most important places for resources. These physical geographic features has brought tourists to their countries and help to build their countries. Both population increases.

Differences: U.S seems to be having MORE physical features that made them a developed country. Because of their sort-of-different-climates, different plants and animals lived there. And might occur some other climate changes or can affect their physical features.

Squatter Settlements Photos

Squatter Settlements photos:

This picture was taken while I was going to school. Perhaps slums would be a better word to describe this picture. This is a small slum but as we can see, there are stuff hanging around and there were trashes on the river, just like the "Slums Video" that Mr. Blake showed us.

Another picture from my way to school. This is a bigger slum with both squatter settlements on both side. Here is one side of the slums, and I can see the woman going outside to bring her clothes inside the house. This is very old and very dirty place to live, but still, poor people have no choice but to live in this place.

Here is another squatter settlement, surrounded by dirty lake water. I can see that it is very hard to get in and out of this place because if we accidentally trip, we might end up in the dirty lake with nasty living creatures. This settlement looks like it is about to fall apart, and it seems very tiny and uncomfortable.

Migration and Immigration Photos

My pictures of area in HCMC that has been affected by migration or immigration...

This was taken near my house. People no longer need this place and had been moving to another place, and now it's under construction, trying to develop the old abandoned place.

The area near the river and the bridge. This place could be where the old homes had built but then people migrated.

This area was taken near Saigon Pearl. There were two yards and I took the picture of one side of it. It seems to be very isolated and still have the old house.

Assignment #1

1. What you did over summer?

Over the summer, I didn't go anywhere much but I had a pretty good time. My friend invited me to her house to watch a movie that is not showing in Vietnam cinemas, and it is called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2, the very last episode of Harry Potter. The movie was awesome and I had a blast playing with my two friends when the movie was over. As the day goes by, school days gets closer. And the last three days of summer, my mom came in busting through my door and yelled "Pack up!". I was pretty surprised because I have no idea where we are going and it's almost time for school. So then, I had a sudden trip to Vung Tau for 2 days and my brother taught me how to swim to prepare me for P.E Swimming. Even though I haven't fully learned how to swim, I'm still happy because I think I wouldn't be the worst swimmer in my class. We went to visit beautiful places and walk on the beach at night. We also ate a lot of good food and I've experienced many things in Vung Tau. Many other people went to a lot of places during their summer. But for me, I think that's enough to make my summer special. :)

2. What are you most/least looking forward to this year in Social Studies?

Most - The first day of school, I was looking forward to meeting Mr. Blake and his fun teaching techniques. I also looking forward to art projects and new Social Studies books. I also want to learn more about global issues, historical events and how the environment interact with human. I really like to learn about the past to see how life has changed.
